Another day, another goal not met

Alright, guys, I’m going to keep this one short because I’m exhausted from a full day.

Again, I decided to work late and so was more limited on time than I normally would have been. Again, I can just clock the hours so I don't feel too bad making more money.

The good news: I was still able to get writing done. I published a story about work from home, which I actually wrote like a week ago and tried to submit to the Ascent.

I found out today that it wasn’t accepted and so I just published it myself and also in the Post Grad Survival Guide. Luckily, Medium also distributed the piece so that was nice. You can read it HERE.

What Is The Growth Project?

Haven’t been following along? This so-called growth project is my way of holding myself accountable for my daily goals, while also forcing me to write each day.

I have five primary goals that I’m striving to meet each day, they are as follows:

  1. Programming for 1 hour outside of work.
  2. Writing on Medium for 45 minutes.
  3. Exercising for 45 minutes.
  4. Music for 30 minutes.
  5. Youtube for 30 minutes.

Its only 3.5 hours of extra work each day, it should be totally easy to accomplish.

What I Actually Accomplished on Day 2

  1. Programming: I did NOT complete this goal, not even a little bit. Between working late at work and also having to run some errands I simply didn’t have the time (an excuse, I know). As such, my goal of finishing my own web application and that of my friend remains distant.
  2. Writing: I did about an hour of writing today. Both for this Article and also for a draft I’m working on.
  3. Exercising: I completed a little over an hour of exercise today. Again, it was these HIIT workouts on Youtube. I’m telling you guys, these things are amazing. Just type in ‘HIIT workout’ and you’ll see lots of great ones. I’m not trying to exaggerate; these are seriously going to singlehandedly get me back in shape and maybe even better.
  4. Music: I did NOT complete this goal for the second day in a row. I picked up my Ukelele today with full intentions of practicing for 30 minutes but then had to console a friend who was upset and then had to go get groceries from the store. 🤷‍♂️
  5. Youtube: I did NOT complete this goal. I didn’t even come close to getting these 30 minutes in.

What Is Going Wrong

It’s a mixture of laziness and not focusing enough on my goals that is causing me to miss my marks.

One thing I need to do better is making sure I don't spend too much time on any single goal. I’ve noticed these last two days that I have done exercise for a bit over an hour instead of keeping it at 45 minutes. The same has been happening with writing; I tend to let myself go over time. I think it would be more enriching to get each goal done before I spend extra time on any one goal.

I also probably need to start doing some of my tasks at other times of the day instead of all after I work. I think tomorrow I will try to do some writing during lunch.

Music should be easy to accomplish since my room has 3 instruments laying about it. I just need to pick one up, start my Yousician app, and start playing. Tomorrow I will get this one done for sure.

I having a lot of trouble getting this Youtube work done. Part of me thinks I’ve put too much on my place and this goal should maybe be removed. However, I know it’s something I have been meaning to work on and so I’m going to keep trying to get it done.

Thanks for Reading. Have a wonderful day/night.
